Hi there, I’m Mattie.

I am a licensed clinical social worker (LISW-CP, 11573) practicing in the Charleston, SC area. I graduated from the College of Charleston with a degree in Psychology and from Fordham University with a Masters in Clinical Social work, along with a specialization in trauma treatment.

I have worked with trauma survivors of all ages in therapeutic, forensic and programmatic settings for a decade. I have extensive experience and specialized training in trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TFCBT), as well as other cognitive behavioral approaches in non-profit and community mental health settings, including the Dee Norton Child Advocacy Center and the Charleston-Dorchester Department of Mental Health. I am passionate about helping folks navigate not only crisis, but also life’s transitions and ongoing challenges- restoring hope and finding coping skills that that are healthy and helpful.

I also have experience providing training to caregivers, mental health professionals, social workers, lawyers and law enforcement on a variety of topics including, trauma-informed care, risky and problematic sexual behaviors in youth, and coordinating care for crime victims.

I love to float in a creek, cook and eat pasta and, mostly, spend time with my husband, little boy and beagle, Duke.

‘‘ When I have been listened to and when I have been heard, I am able to re-perceive my world in a new way and to go on. It is astonishing how elements that seem insoluble become soluble when someone listens, how confusions that seem irremediable turn into relatively clear flowing streams when one is heard.”
